Early life

Tom Ford was born as Thomas Carlyle Ford on August 27, 1961 in Austin, Texas, United States. He was born to his parents Thomas David Ford and Shirley Burton. Ford grew up in two places, Houston and San Marcos. When he was 11 years old, his family moved to a new location, Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Regarding his education, he attended St. Michael’s High School. He later attended Santa Fe Preparatory School and graduated in 1979. He also attended Bard College, but did not study there long and dropped out.

He then enrolled at New York University, where he studied art history. Ford soon dropped out of college after a year of study and has since focused on filming television commercials. He also studied at Parsons New School for Design. Ford studied fashion in his final year at the New School, but ended up graduating as an architect.

After graduating, she was looking for a way to gain experience in the world of fashion. She called designer Katie Hardwick every day in hopes of finding a job. He was eventually hired by Hardwick, where he worked as an assistant designer for two years. He then served the Creator, Perry Ellis, for two years.

Ford was in a unique position to stand out in the world of fashion after being hired by Gucci as the main designer of women’s clothing. He later moved to Milan, Italy. Within six months, Ford expanded his role at Gucci as a designer of men’s clothing and footwear.

In 1993 he was appointed design director for 11 product lines. At that time he was working 18 hours a day. In 1994 he was promoted to a new position as Creative Director of Gucci. Tom was appointed creative director of Yves Saint Laurent (YSL) following its acquisition of Gucci in 1999. Tom decided to part ways with Gucci in April 2004. Ford directed his first movie titled A Single Man in 2009. The movie was nominated for many prestigious awards. In 2016 he directed the film Animals of the Night, an adaptation of the first novel published by Austin Wright, Tony & Susan. The film received positive reviews from critics and audiences. It also won the Grand Jury Prize at the world’s oldest film festival, the Venice Film Festival.
