Michael Barrett was born on May 28, 1970 in Riverside, California, United States. He spoke little of his youth and his parents. For his studies, he entered the University of California, Los Angeles, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in 1992. He later attended Columbia University in New York. In 1996 he graduated from university with a master’s degree in cinematography.
