Early life

Black Youngsta (real name Sammy Marquez Benson) was born on April 8, 1990 in Memphis, Tennessee, USA. He was raised by his grandparents along with his younger brothers. Black grew up in a financially poor environment where his grandparents could not support him or his brother. At the age of 7, he started working at a local grocery store to help his grandparents.

However, he was fired from the local grocery store after the manager caught him making fake take-out orders for his brothers. He then dedicated himself to selling drugs, for which he was imprisoned several times. In 2012 he was released from prison after a year, while he started organizing local parties. After some time, he decided to pursue a career in music, which led to the release of his first Fast Bricks mixtape in 2012.

From 2012 to 2014 he released three mixtapes as part of his debut Fast Bricks mixtape. In 2015 she released her song “Heavy”, noted by rapper Yo Gotti. Gotti then signed him to his own label, Label Collective Music Group. On September 24, 2015 he released his first mixtape with CMG “I Swear To God”. He then released two mixtapes in March 2016 titled “Young & Reckless” and “Fuck Everbody”.

Negro released his fourth mixtape on CMG titled “Illuminati” in February 2017. In the same year, under CMG, he founded his own label, Heavyweight Champion, and released a mixtape called “I’m Innocent”. Youngsta signed his first major deal with Epic Records in December 2017.

Youngsta released her first studio album 223 in February 2018, which reached number 42 on the Billboard 200. In May 2019, she released her EP titled “Cut Up”. In August, he announced his second studio album called Church on Sunday. 2019, which was officially released on November 29, 2019.

Youngsta faced numerous legal problems. In January 2016, police called him into a Wells Fargo branch after he withdrew $200,000 from his bank account to buy a car. Wells Fargo employees thought he was robbing a bank after seeing him walk out of the bank with the money.

In May 2017, he turned himself in to police for participating in the shooting of another Memphis resident, Young Dolph. In the shooting, he and his accomplices reportedly fired more than 100 shots at the SUV of rapper Young Dolph, who was shot to death on November 17, 2021.

Recently, some people on Twitter claimed that Youngsta’s grandmother’s house was demolished along with Yo Gotti’s restaurant. However, the report was later proven to be false after Memphis News Station Action 5 News correspondent Hannah Wallsmith denied the allegations, stating, “Private individuals in Memphis were NOT killed by @Mem_PoliceDept.”
