The following year she played for the Delmarva Shorebirds, where she hit 8 home runs. In later seasons, she hit 20 home runs.

In 2017, Mercedes played for the Chicago White Sox and in 2018 for the Winston Salem board, in which he scored 14 home runs. However, Mercedes didn’t bother coach Tony La Russa, as he hit a 30-point, 11-point home run over a position player. This resulted in his demotion to the AAA Charlotte Knights on July 2, 2021.

Shortly thereafter, on July 21, 2021, Mercedes made the shocking announcement by posting on Instagram that although he was still young and in his prime, he would be retiring from baseball indefinitely. Many are surprised by Mercedes’ decision to pull out despite still being a rookie.
