Early Life
Somers had a normal upbringing, but struggled at first, as her father was an alcoholic and even verbally abused her. She attended Cappuccino High School before moving to Mercy High School. Somers then enrolled at the Women’s College of San Francisco.

Somers began acting in movies in the 1960s, where she first landed minor roles, including a role in Blonde in the White Thunderbird. He later starred in Luck and The Rockford Files.
Some of her early roles also included explicit scenes from her performance in Magnum Force, in which she looked like a poor topless girl. Gradually she gained popularity through other roles in the films Love Boat and One Day at a Time.
However, her big break came in 1977 when she landed the role of Chrissie Snow on the sitcom Three. The show was a huge hit in that her character Chrissy was a ditzy blonde who worked as a secretary in an office.
But the continued success of the show would lead to Somers’ downfall from the show. As the show’s popularity grew, Somers asked for his current salary of $30,000 to be quintupled.

Somers married Bruce Somers at the age of 19. With Bruce, she had a son named Bruce Jr. However, over the years their marriage declined and they decided not to get divorced until after 3 years of marriage.
Subsequently, she began dating Alan Hamel, who was working as an MC. They decided to get married in 1977 and have been together ever since. She came to a difficult time in her life when she was diagnosed with stage II breast cancer in 2000, for which she had to undergo several therapy sessions.
She is an advocate for bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, which she also wrote a book about.
