Early Life
Shock G was born on August 25, 1963 in Brooklyn, New York. However, he spent most of his childhood with his family in Tampa, Florida. His love for music began at a young age. In 1978, he won the “Most Talented” award at Grecote High School as a drummer. After his parents divorced, he moved to Queens and fell in love with hip-hop.
He returned to Florida two years later and worked as a DJ for Master Blasters. Due to his early success, he decided to take music seriously and began attending Hillsborough Community College, where he majored in music theory.

After the Shock ended, G moved to California, where he formed a band called the Digital Underground. It consisted of three members Shock G, Jimi Chopmaster J and Kenneth Waters. In 1990, the group released the hit “The Humpty Dance”, which topped the Billboard rap chart.
The band produced Tupac’s 1993 platinum single “I Get Around” and also released the 1995 multi-platinum album “So Many Tears”. In addition to his contributions to the digital underground, Shock G has also found success as a solo artist and music producer. He co-produced Tupac’s debut album 2Pacalypse Now. In 2003 he also produced the single “Risky Business” for the group Murs. He has also worked with Prince, Dr. Dre, KRSOne, Luniz and others.

On April 22, 2021, Shock G was found dead in a hotel room in Tampa, Florida. The cause of death is still unknown.
