Early life
Ron Artest was born on November 13, 1979 in Queens, New York, United States. He grew up at the Queensbridge Projects in Long Island City with two younger brothers, Daniel and Isaiah.
As for his training, he studied at the La Salle Academy. He played a lot of basketball while attending a private boys’ high school. There he played with future NBA stars Lamar Odom and Elton Elton Brand on the same team, the Amateur Athletic Union (AUU).
Ron then attended St. John’s University where he went on to play basketball for the varsity team. He was on the varsity team for two years. Artest led the Red Storm University men’s basketball team to a record 144 wins in the Big East Conference. He began to gain popularity after displaying his extraordinary athletic talents in many high-profile summer basketball tournaments.

Ron began his professional basketball career in 1999 when he was drafted by the Chicago Bulls in 1999. In his two and a half years with the Bulls, he started 175 games. In a total of 175 games he averaged 12.5 points and more than 4 rebounds in each game.
In 2002, Artest signed with the Indiana Pacers. During a game with the Miami Heat on January 27, 2003, he got into a verbal altercation with Pat Riley and was subsequently suspended for four games. He has been with the Pacers for four years.
