Talking about his career in 1966, Morrison started his career. He started out working for Saskatoon Starphoenix and then moved on to radio and television. He was a reporter or anchor for local stations in Saskatchewan, Vancouver, British Columbia, and Toronto, Ontario. In 1973, he joined CTV Canada AM as a news anchor and has also worked as a reporter and weekend anchor, as well as a producer.
He also won awards for his coverage of the Yom Kippur War while working as a reporter for CTV. He was also a reporter for CTV National News from 1975 to 1976 and a national affairs correspondent and host of the show from 1976 to 1979.
Later, in 1982, he joined the Société Radio-Canada. From 1984 to 1985 he also co-hosted Midday, an online midday news magazine that he co-founded.
He also moved to Los Angeles in 1986 as the 5:00 p.m. news anchor. m. and 11:00 p.m. m. on KNBCTV. He joined NBC News in 1988 as a West Coast correspondent for NBC Nightly News and the Today Show. Morrison also covered the Tiananmen Square protests in 1989.
In 1992, Morrison returned to Canada to co-host the national morning newscast CTV Canada AM. He also hosted The Editors on PBS. Morrison then returned to NBC in 1995 as a correspondent for Dateline NBC, with his position beginning in 2020.
