Katherine (Kate) Brown (born June 21, 1960) is a prominent American politician and attorney who has served as the 38th Governor of Oregon in the United States since February 2015. A member of the Democratic Party, she served three terms as a Representative in the 13th District of the Oregon House of Representatives from 1991 to 1997, three terms as a Senator in the 21st District of the Oregon Senate from 1997 to 2009, three terms as Majority Leader in the Oregon Senate from 2003 to 2009, and two Thermages as Oregon’s Secretary of Foreign Affairs from 2009 to 2015. Following John Kitzhar’s resignation in 2015, she became Governor of Oregon. She was elected for the remainder of her term as governor in the 2016 special election and was fully re-elected in 2018.
