Caleb Dressel was born on August 16, 1996 in Green Cove Springs, Florida, United States. His parents are Michael and Christina Dressel. Caleb has three siblings named Tyler, Caitlin, and Sherridon. All his brothers and sisters actively participate in swimming competitions.

Regarding his education, he attended Clay High School. Caleb swam with sharks from the Bolles School. He has competed in competitive swimming since his debut. Dressel was active in swimming during his time at the University of Florida. In 2018 he graduated from the university.

At the age of 15, Dressel competed in the 2012 US Olympic Trials. He was the youngest male swimmer in the trials, where he finished 145th in the 50m freestyle. In the Trials, he covered the 200-yard freestyle in 19.82 seconds, becoming the first swimmer under the age of 16 to break the 20-second record.

In 2013 she competed at the 2013 World Junior Swimming Championships, winning 6 medals including a gold medal in the 100m freestyle. That same year, he also competed in the Winter Junior Speedo Championships, where he became the youngest swimmer to break 19 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle.

Caleb won the 2015 NCAA title in the 50-yard freestyle as a freshman at the University of Florida. In 2016, he set a new time record of 18.20 in the 50-yard freestyle while competing in the NCAA Men’s Division I Championship. He also set a new record of 40.46 in the 100-yard freestyle.
