Theo Won was born on March 19, 1980 in Louisiana, United States. He was born to his parents Roland Theodor Achilles von Kurnatowski and Gina Capitani. His father, Roland, was 70 years old when he was born. Theo has an older brother and two younger sisters.

Theo began his professional career at the age of 19, starring in the ninth season of the MTV reality show Rules of the Road: Top Speed Tour. He joined the program while attending Louisiana State University. After Rules of the Road, he starred in the spin-off game show MTV Challenge for four seasons. He later joined other MTV shows like Battle of the Seasons, The Gauntlet, Battle of the Sexes II and Fresh Meat.
