Sherlock Holmes 3 was supposed to come out in December 2021, but fans already know that won’t happen because filming hasn’t even started yet. Unsurprisingly, the ongoing global crisis is to blame for the movie’s delay, just like every other movie and TV show suffered in the past year.
“We started going there and then Covid hit and they said, ‘Look, we’re going to go and Robert has something else he wants to do,'” Dexter Fletcher explained in June 2021.
“These things are so big you won’t want to get anything out of them… I know Robert won’t let this fish off the hook.”
In July 2019, Fletcher replaced Guy Ritchie as director of Sherlock Holmes 3, and at least the most recent update ensures that we can expect future returns from Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, Sherlock Holmes, and Dr. Holmes. Watson could see.

Warner Bros initially planned to release the third film on December 25, 2020 before pushing it back for a year to December 22, 2021.
The expected third part of Sherlock Holmes will not be released at the end of 2020, as originally planned. However, according to Fletcher, it won’t be released until 2021 or 2022. The sequel was originally scheduled for release in 2020, but has yet to be released.

However, we would not bet on the return of Professor James Moriarty, masterfully played by Jared Harris.

“We want it to be the best in the series and that’s a big deal,” Downey said of the third film. So which of Sherlock’s old villains will he face this time? In the first film, Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson battle Lord Henry Blackwood (Mark Strong) in a parallel universe where beings from other dimensions have free rein to change history as they please. In the second episode, we saw Sherlock’s nemesis, Professor James Moriarty (Jared Harris).
As mentioned, Harris’ return seems unlikely. Holmes himself was believed to have died in the same incident, but the investigator faked his death and instead secretly showed up at Watson’s workplace.
I’ll go ahead and say that judging by the trailer, this will be the last season of Sherlock. I would like to add that although Moriarty is absent from the finale, he may appear as a supporting character or even return to the spotlight in future seasons. With his return assured of him for at least six more episodes (or more if possible), we can look forward to another one from Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. That doesn’t mean there won’t be surprises along the way! It was confirmed today that Sherlock season 4 will premiere exclusively on Netflix in 2022.
