Stanley was born on March 18, 1994 in Las Vegas, Nevada, the son of Julie Stanley and Ron Stanley. He attended Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, where he played varsity football and basketball.

When he graduated from high school, Rivals.com rated Stanley a four-star rookie and ranked him the 15th best hitter in his class. He entered the University of Notre Dame to play football.

Stanley played college football at the University of Notre Dame from 2012 to 2016. During his freshman year, he only played two games. As a sophomore, he started all 13 games and was on a team that only suffered eight sacks. He made the jump to a sinister tackle during his junior year, where he started all 13 games and only missed one layoff in a year. After his senior season, he chose the NFL Draft.

Ronnie Stanley was selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft and signed a four-year contract worth $20.48 million, including a $13.09 million signing bonus. He made his professional debut against the Buffalo Bills, where the Ravens won 137 games. He started a total of 12 games and allowed three layoffs. During his rookie season, Stanley received the third best offensive tackle of all rookies behind Jack Conklin and Taylor Decker.
