Matthew Stafford was born on February 7, 1988 in Tampa, Florida, United States. He was born to his parents, John and Margaret Stafford. Matthew grew up in Dunwoody, Georgia and Dallas, Texas. He attended Highland Park High School.

Matthew started playing football in high school, where he was regarded as one of the best high school quarterbacks in the USA in the class of 2006. Stafford helped his high school team win the state championship UIL 4A Division I with a record. 150 points he won the Best Arm Awards in 2005 and was MVP at EA Sports Elite 11 Quarterback Camp in 2005.
