Early life
Matt Pokora was born on September 26, 1985 in Strasbourg, France. His father Andre Tota is a former professional soccer player. Matt’s parents divorced when he was 13 years old. He wanted to become a professional soccer player like his father. But as he got older, he became more interested in music.
Regarding his education, he completed his primary education in Hochberg. He later studied at two colleges in Mundolsheim: the Paul Emile Victor College and the Lycée Aristide Briand in Schiltigheim. He took his stage name Pokora, which is Polish for “humility”.

Early in his career, Matt was involved in a French R&B group called Mic Unity. After some time in 2003, he participated in the reality show Popstars. During the competition, he managed to impress the jury and the public.
He was soon cast as one of the members of the boy band Linkup. The group consists of two other members, Lionel and Otis. In the show’s finale, the boy band defeated the girl group Diadems.
The boy band rocked the stage with their first song “Mon Etoile”. He managed to climb to the top of the French charts. They released their first album entitled “Notre Etoile” which was quite successful. The group then teamed up with the British boy band Blue. After working together, they come out with a song called “You & Me Bublin”. The boy band subsequently broke up due to an inability to achieve good sales results.
Matt continued his solo career in 2004 with producers Kore & Scalp. He released his first solo album Matt Pokora. However, he was forced to change his name after a lawsuit from French singer Matt Houston. So he changed his stage name and released an album called Mr. Submission.
His first song under his new stage name was “Showbiz (The Battle)”, which became a huge hit. The song took its place in the top ten hits in France. Matt took a big step forward in his career by releasing his second album titled “Player” in January 2006. On March 24, 2008 he released his third MP3 album. Belgium and Germany. The album later went gold.
Matt’s fourth studio album Mise A Jour was released on August 23, 2010 and his fifth album In Pursuit of Happiness was released on March 20, 2012. His final and eighth studio album titled Pyramid was released on April 12, 2019.
