Early life
Kimbal Musk was born on September 20, 1972 in Pretoria, South Africa. His father had his own engineering company and his mother May Musk is a well known nutritionist. He was raised by his parents, along with his older brother and his younger sister Ilon Tosca.
In terms of academic record, Musk graduated from high school in Pretoria, South Africa. He later moved to Ontario, Canada, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Queen’s University. Musk graduated from Queen’s University in 1995.

Kimbal took the first step toward his entrepreneurial career by founding a private company, College Pro Artists, in 1994. That same year, he and his brother Elon founded their second company, called Zip2, which provides content for the online newspaper The New. York Times and the Chicago Tribune. In 1999, Musk’s brother sold Compaq for $307 million.
Kimbal then invested in various other software and technology companies. He also invested in his brother’s online email payment company, X.com, which later merged with PayPal in October 2002.
