Facts about Kelly Ann
Husband Kelly Ann Taylor was raised at Lilfordia School near Harare by Ian Campbell, the father of Zimbabwean cricketer Alastair Campbell.
As a teenager, while attending St. John’s College, Harare, Taylor was regularly selected for national age groups and played in two Under-19 World Championships.
At the age of 15, he made his debut with the Mashonaland A team. The following year he rose to fame by taking 200 steps in the Logan Cup B Division.
Great national performances and a mass exodus of great players forced Taylor to join the national team at 18 against Sri Lanka in the 2003/04 season.
Taylor made his debut for Zimbabwe at a time when many of the country’s top players were revolting against Zimbabwean cricket and no longer volunteering to represent the team.
Therefore, in order to close the gap, many young players were integrated into the team prematurely, which weakened the team, especially at the test level.
Taylor was one of the youngest and most promising of this group. In 2006, despite not having signed a new contract, he was called up by the national team. Shortly after Tatenda Taibu’s temporary departure, he too took on the task of guarding the gate.
He gained international notoriety after his 60 years without scoring helped Zimbabwe score a five-wicket goal against Australia in the 2007 ICC World Twenty20.
In July 2007, Taylor was re-appointed for Zimbabwe against South Africa A after being unavailable against India A. He scored just 15 points in the second class opener after being overlooked in the first match.
When Tatenda Taibu returned to the team, Taylor was no longer needed for the stumps. In the ODI series against the entire South African team, the entire Zimbabwean team performed three times better but worse.
Taylor also had a hot streak, finishing fifth on the all-time scoring list with 105 points at 35.00. Taylor’s first appearance for Twenty20 was in September 2006 against the Eagles and his second was in December 2006 against Bangladesh.
