Jerry Remy (real name Gerald Peter Remy) was born on November 8, 1952 in Fall River, Massachusetts, United States. He spent his childhood in nearby Somerset. For his studies, he entered Somerset High School. After graduating from high school, he enrolled at Roger Williams University.

Jerry began his playing career after being selected by the Washington Senators in the 1970 MLB Draft. Despite being selected by the Senators, he did not sign with the team. He was subsequently selected by the California Angels in the 1971 MLB Draft and, unlike his previous draft selection, he was ultimately selected a second time by the team.

On May 27, 2014, he pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Likewise, his youngest son, Jordan, tried to further his career by joining a professional baseball team. However, he did not play baseball professionally, although he was selected by the Red Sox in the 1999 MLB draft.

Jerry Remy died on the night of Sunday, October 30, 2021 at the age of 68, after a long battle with lung cancer. In November 2008, he underwent surgery to remove a small section of a cancerous lung. After recovering from surgery, he developed pneumonia and then suffered from pneumonia. In June 2017 he announced that his lung cancer had returned. On August 7, 2018, he announced his fourth cancer diagnosis. In early November 2018, he announced that he was cancer free.
