Early Life

Walker grew up in a working-class family along with his six other siblings. As a child, Walker suffered from being overweight and had a stutter. However, his mother encouraged him not to use these problems as an excuse, but to address them.

He attended Johnson County High School where, in addition to football, he played various sports such as basketball and track. He helped a high school team called the Johnson County Trojans win their first state championship.

Walker then transferred to the University of Georgia, where he became an All-American three times and received prestigious awards such as the Maxwell Award and the Heisman Award for Justice Research in 1982.

The fate and career of Herschel Walker

In 1986, Walker signed with the Dallas Cowboys, where he played defenseman. He had a five-year, $5 million contract with the Cowboys and has grown significantly as a player over the years.

Within three years, Walker decided to join the Minnesota Vikings, and the Vikings offered to trade five players along with six future draft picks to lure Walker to their team. It was also a good deal for the Cowboys because they would have gotten a lot of talent if Walker had been traded.

This is exactly what happened to the Dallas Cowboys, who thrived on the talent of a craftsman. Walker played for them for several years and later for the Philadelphia Eagles.

He later signed a three-year, $4.8 million contract with the New York Giants. However, he did not achieve great success with the Giants due to the inconsistency of the roles assigned to him.

In addition to his professional career, Walker became politically active in his later years, calling himself a Republican on the Council on Physical Education, Fitness, and Nutrition.

Personal Life

Walker married Cindy DeAngelis Grossman, whom he fell in love with in college in 1983. With Cindy, the couple had a son named Christian. However, after nearly two decades of living together, they divorced in 2002. He then began a relationship with Julie Blanchard, whom he later married.

Known for his unique training style, Walker claims he only gets five hours of sleep and only eats once a day. He also doesn’t lift weights and instead does over 1,000 push-ups and about 2,000 sit-ups every day.
