Early life

Mike Krzyszewski was born on February 13, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois, United States. His parents are William and Emily Krzyzewski. For education, he attended St. Helena Catholic School and Archbishop Weber High School. He later attended the United States Military Academy, where he played basketball under basketball coach Bob Knight.

Mike coached the Army basketball team when he was in his college season. He even took his team to the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) where his team finished fourth. Mike served as an officer in the United States Army from 1969 to 1974. He served in the Army Command for three years, leading maintenance crews. Mike received the West Point Distinguished Graduate Award in 2005.

Mike was discharged from the Army in 1974, where he rose to the rank of Captain. He then went to work as an assistant basketball coach for the Indiana Hoosiers, where Bob Knight was the head coach. A year later, he returned to West Point and began working as a head coach for Army cadets.

After five seasons coaching Army Cadets, he was elected head coach of Duke University in 1980. Mike was Duke’s most successful interim coach in the NCAA Men’s Tournament with a record of 9730. He worked for various charities along with his girlfriend, Carol. He even founded the Emily Krzyszewski Center, a nonprofit organization in Durham.
