In a statement dated October 8, 2021, the Brokenshire family said: “It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of James Brokenshire MP at the age of 53.
“James died peacefully last night at Darent Valley Hospital with members of his family at his bedside.
“He has been in hospital since Sunday after his condition rapidly deteriorated.
“As well as being a brilliant government minister as Secretary of State for Security and Immigration at the Home Office and Secretary of State for the Northern Ireland Authority and the Department for Housing, Communities and Local Government, he was a dedicated MP for the constituency, first for Hornchurch from 2005 to 2010 and then over the last 11 years for Old Bexley & Sidcup.
