Brandon Todd was born on July 22, 1985 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States. At the age of 11 he moved to North Carolina. There he joined the Prestonwood Country Club and began playing junior golf. Brandon attended Green Hope High School.

He was in great shape during league games in high school. During his three seasons as a rookie, junior and senior, he tested his game and won the 4A Ranked North Carolina High School Individual Championship. He later moved to the University of Georgia. There he was one of the members of the university team that won the national title.

In 2008, Brandon competed in the Utah State Championships and won the championship with a strong performance. Overall, he was ranked 19th on the money list. This earned him a spot on the 2009 PGA Tour. While competing in the Athens Regional Foundation Classic, he hit the ball twice on the same hole.
